I was honored when Oli approached me about shooting his and Amy's wedding in England this past summer--their NYC engagement session at Chelsea Market was one of the silliest, most fun shoots of '09 and I was elated that I'd have the chance to work with them again, let alone in such an idyllic setting.

They were married on a charming vineyard in the English Countryside, near where Amy grew up. The night before the wedding the parties gathered at separate pubs to eat dinner and tell stories about the bride and groom--coming together afterward to rock out to the local band. (Mere practice for the enormously entertaining party that was coming the next evening.)

Bright and early the next day, everyone began getting ready. Guests were taken on guided tours of the vineyard before the festivities began, sampling the champagne and toasting the groom while Amy prepared to arrive for the main event. After their touching, sun-filled ceremony, everyone congregated for the reception, which included champagne toasts, fish and chips, and a "cake" made entirely of gourmet cheese.....followed up by vigorous sing-alongs and a few very inventive dance moves.

It was truly a weekend for the books, and I'm so glad I was able to capture it for this wonderful couple.

Sybil and Neil

Sybil and Neil met me in Bryant Park after work, days before they were to leave for their wedding in Texas. Despite the quick nature of our shoot, they were immediately able to get into the spirit of things---diving right in without pause when I asked them to stroll repeatedly up the central path of the park for that perfect city street shot.

Ordinarily it takes some coaxing to get portraits this relaxed, but with these two it was instantaneous--they are extremely serene and sure of both themselves and each other (not to mention photogenic, that always helps!) I imagine their wedding was gorgeous affair, and I wish them all the best.

Erin and Bill

It's obvious upon meeting Erin and Bill that they compliment one another perfectly. He is quiet and considerate, and she's all laughter and charisma. When you're with both of them you can't help but feel a part of the balance they create in being so uniquely compatible with each other.

Their wedding day struck a similar harmony....with an intimate ceremony held in a modest little church near Erin's childhood home, and then on to the reception at Round Hill House--a large, rollicking affair in which the guests began dancing sooner than I'd ever seen before....as if they simply couldn't wait to have fun and begin celebrating the marriage of these two lovely individuals. And I have to say, after having grown to know these two over the past several months....I can't blame them one bit.

Farrah and Paul

Farrah and Paul flew all the way from England for their ceremony in Florida, but first they decided to take a few days and explore the city before the festivities began. When Farrah contacted me to see if I might be game for an engagement shoot while they were here, I was elated.

She had a very clear vision for the day, she wanted the city to play as much of a role in her images as she and Paul. So I thought it fitting that we begin on the Brooklyn bridge, and travel to Times Square for some classic Manhattan shots. (Plus, Paul's a police officer in the UK....working with the infamous NYPD sign was a no-brainer!)

It's not every day you meet a couple willing to tango in the middle of the Brooklyn Bridge...these two compliment each other perfectly, and it was a joy to be able to document those special days leading up to their wedding.

Hascy and Tim

Hascy and Tim met in college, where they became close friends... later dating in New York City after graduation. It made perfect sense, then, that they would get married on the beautiful, tree-lined campus that had first brought them together.

The weekend began with a rehearsal dinner held in a stately, gothic dining hall on campus, followed by a whirlind day of preparations and pizza at the Dean's house....then to the main event in the college chapel, and onto a raucus reception above the college cafe. Every step of the way, guests could sense the love affair not only between the couple, but between the two of them and the sunny, picturesque quads and classrooms where they had first met.

It was remarkable to watch this couple return to the place that was for them so full of memories, nostaliga, and joy. Their relationship has grown so much since they were there last, and it was plain to see from the happiness in their eyes all weekend that this was only the beginning.

Rashida and Vaughn

Rashida and Vaughn met me in Central Park on a sweltering summer day. As I watched them approach, Rashida fanning herself and Vaughn soldiering on despite wearing a long sleeved shirt, I was worried the humidity and crowds would dampen their enthusiasm.

My concern soon evaporated--the moment I removed the lens cap, they began interacting and smiling with ease. Rashida had warned me that Vaughn might be shy in front of the camera, but frame after frame proved otherwise....when he wasn't cracking Rashida up, he was looking at her with a love so obvious, I barely had to coax at all. Their images clearly reflect the connection and contentment present in their relationship. I know their elegant ceremony on Long Island next March will shine with the same.

Liz and Kal

It was only fitting that Liz, Kal and I begin our engagement shoot at the Southstreet Seaport, where Kal proposed. They regaled me with the story while I snapped them kissing and goofing around on the upper deck. Between Liz's classic dress, Kal's Humphrey Bogart-esque appeal, and the view of the Brooklyn Bridge in the background the photographs ended up having a gorgeous, vintage feel.

We then traveled to the Brooklyn bridge where they continued to joke around and flirt, telling me all about their wedding in October of next year. Fall weddings are spectacular, and rare.... it makes perfect sense for this classic, charming couple.

Erin and Steven

Erin and Steven are one of the most easygoing couples I've met. They specialize in making everyone around them feel at home, and their wedding was no exception. From our first meeting to the moment Erin sent me on my way with a hug and a shimmy at the end of her reception, the vibe was nothing but natural and relaxed--it felt as if we'd known each other for years.

They were married in an adorable upper west side church with red doors, where they know virtually everyone. (Not to mention every detail about the place....including which floorboards may creak as I crawl past them with my camera---helpful tidbits abound!)

Then, their reception took place in a colorful Cuban restaurant replete with cupcakes, sangria, and some serious rug-cutting. It managed to be lively, boisterous, and chilled-out all at the same time....a wedding truly befitting their personal style as a couple.

Theresa and Chris

The moment I saw Theresa waving at me excitedly from across the coffee shop at our initial consultation last February, I knew I wanted to work with her. Fast forward four months and I'm capturing her little nephews as they restlessly bounce up and down on their hands to keep from poking at the gorgeous 4-tiered cake at her rehearsal dinner.

In the end I discovered that Theresa and her nephews aren't the only ones with infectious enthusiasm. Hers is large, animated family full of energy and jokes...the time I spent with them in the cozy little Italian restaurant where she held her rehearsal dinner was the perfect way to kick off another busy wedding season!

Jenna and Jason

Jenna and Jason met me in Central Park with coordinating colors and matching senses of mischief. They spent our two hours together teasing each other mercilessly, and helping to come up with great image ideas (a pose-off may have occurred at one point...) The two of them are magical and silly as a couple, and wonderful to photograph as a result. Congrats Jenna and Jason!

Lillian and David

When I asked Lillian and David to make the most of a sidewalk snack stand, they dove right in....chatting to the owner, even buying a pack of Skittles that ended up inspiring one of my favorite images from their shoot. They were full of ideas, including having David re-stage their proposal (Lillian wasn't so sure....maybe it had something to do with the 456 upper west siders who immediately began gawking not realizing it was a reenactment....) From start to finish this couple was a breeze to shoot, bringing their own creativity and unique perspective to the experience. Congrats Lillian and David!

Shirley, Andy, and Lucy

The moment Shirley, Andy, and Lucy--their two year-old puggle--came barreling down the street, I knew we were in for a lively afternoon. I'm not sure who started it...Lucy, her parents, or me...but by the time we parted ways things had devolved into my laughing so hard I had to put the camera down and recover. These two are an amazing couple, and it's clear in the way they relate to one another and Lucy that there are many, many more laughs and good times to come.

Amy and Oli are one of those couples you can't help but love. They have a quiet ease about them that makes them extremely relaxing to be around...not to mention to photograph! But, just when they've lulled you into a state of calm, they'll surprise you by spontaneously bursting into laughter or pulling faces at one another. I had a wonderful time with them at Chelsea Market this past weekend--whether they were making eyes at each other over shakes, or making the most out of a mountain of baskets--they were full of joy and enthusiasm. I'm honored to be photographing their wedding in England this August. Congrats Amy and Oli!

I began our shoot at Grand Central by telling Lizz and Rob that one of the tricks to engagement photography is to make sure you're always touching one another in some small way....holding hands, or even just grazing your fiance's arm. This technique guarantees that each shot will reveal a little something about your relationship.

Oh, how little I knew about this couple at the time! Aside from both being tall, striking, and photogenic--Lizz and Rob are also one of the most affectionate couples I've met. The minute the lens cap came off they were in the zone, laughing together and being themselves...and the moments kept coming. Each shot was more lovely and intimate than the last. They are truly wonderful together, and I know their wedding in Boston this September will be one for the books! Congrats to an extraordinary couple!

Wedding Coordinators: Elite Affairs

A few weeks ago I was fortunate to meet Lisa Scully from Elite Affairs.

It takes a great deal of organization and attention to detail to become a successful wedding coordinator, and Lisa has these qualities in spades. Additionally, she's extremely personable, gracious, and experienced....precisely the right combination of traits for someone in her field. Her blog alone is a wealth of information.

As she explained her business to me, I was struck by the things she does both large and small to make her clients feel pampered--she truly looks at the planning experience from the bride's point of view. It's my pleasure to recommend her to anyone looking for a coordinator.

When I met Kim and John outside the Central Park Carousel this past Saturday, they were both in a great mood, wearing cozy sweaters and looking their Valentine's best.

After we chatted briefly about the shoot, we approached the carousel, and they asked me if we were going to actually ride it. I told them yes, we would be, but that all they had to do was hold on and look adorable, while I took over the job of riding the horse in front of them backwards, gripping for dear life with my calves, and snapping away!

Luckily, our efforts paid off! The photographs are fantastic, and I owe it all to the fact that these two fully embraced the experience...laughing and playing along with any ideas I threw their way.

I know these two will be very happy together, it's clear from the way they interact, even without words, that they possess magnificent chemistry.

Hascy and Tim

Hascy and Tim are one of the most playful couples I've met. Cautious at first, all I had to do was get them on the swings for 5 minutes and shortly afterward they were throwing snowballs and giving each other noogies. This shoot was all play and no work for me, as they were absolutely hilarious. It was easy to see the friendship behind the romance...especially with Tim attempting to stuff snowballs down the back of Hascy's jacket (unsuccessfully, I might add. Hascy is no one's fool). Theirs is bound to be one of the most joyful, festive weddings yet--I can't wait to be a part of it in July!

These two are the quintessential New York couple...they knew exactly how to make the city work for them in this shoot. We began with a few casual shots on their terrace, and ended with JJ spinning and dipping Lorene in the middle of a busy Manhattan sidewalk! They were fantastic sports, always up for anything and ready to celebrate their engagement as energetically as possible. After our shoot we grabbed drinks at the Central Park Boathouse where they regaled me with the tale of how they met. I can't wait to capture these two as they tie the knot in August!
